A 17 Year Old Man and 16 Year Old Juvenile Also Arrested For Shooting of Maryland Heights Police Sergeant

On Sunday, January 2, 2011, warrants were issued by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office on Marquise D. Lockhart, 17 years old, of the 4900 block of Thekla, St. Louis, Missouri, 63115 for one count of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer in the First Degree, one count of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. Marquise Lockhart is being held on a $250,000 bond. A sixteen year old suspect was also taken into custody and transported to St. Louis County Family Court.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at approximately 2:30 AM on Jennings Station Road near Highway 70. Maryland Heights Detective Sergeant Joe Eagan was conducting an active investigation and sitting in his unmarked police vehicle in the City of Jennings when he was approached by a subject and shot in the face. The shooter then fled on foot. Sergeant Eagan was transported to a nearby hospital, underwent surgery and survived. Sergeant Joe Eagan has been on the Maryland Heights Police Department for over 25 years.

On Saturday, January 1, 2011, warrants were already issued by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office on Marquise Lockhart's brother, Evan Lockhart. Evan Lockhart, 19 years old, of the 4900 block of Thekla, St. Louis, Missouri, 63115 was charged with one count of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer in the First Degree, one count of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. Lockhart is being held without bond.

Evan Lockhart was originally arrested on Friday, December 31, 2010 by the St. Louis City Police Department on another incident. St. Louis City Police Officers received information that Lockhart was involved in the shooting of Sergeant Eagan. This information was given to detectives from the City of Maryland Heights and St. Louis County Police Departments. These detectives investigated Lockhart's involvement and presented the case to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office. A further investigation led to Marquise Lockhart and the juvenile suspect who is not related to the other suspects.
