Letter of Introduction from Workforce Investment Board Chairman
Overview
The Missouri Career Center - Saint Louis County - North Oaks has continuously evolved to meet
the increasing demands of the career seeker and the business community. In 1987, the
United States Department of Labor established Private Industry Councils to increase
private sector involvement in the federal job training programs under the Job Training
Partnership Act (JTPA). In 1998, the entire workforce development system was reformed
under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). In the process, the Private Industry Councils
were authorized to provide oversight of local workforce services. With the
implementation of the WIA, the one-stop concept was created to offer both individuals
and businesses a continuum of services (i.e. job training, job development, resource
services, job skill development and job recruitment) at a single point of contact.
True to our tradition of evolving to meet the increasing demands of the community, the Missouri Career Centers - Saint Louis County (i.e. Deer Creek, Florissant and the MET Center) adopted the Next Generation Career Center, service delivery system. Under the direction of the Missouri Department of Economic Development -- Division of Workforce Developmend (DWD), Career Centers reorganized with the ultimate goal of providing customers with a more seemless delivery of services.
